What the pour sheet tells you: the plaster and water for each piece, the slip to have ready, what you need, and the steps with their times.
Every mold comes with a pour sheet. Open your piece and choose Pour sheet at the top. It is worked out from your mold and from the materials on the piece.
A table gives the plaster and the water for each plaster piece, and for all of them together. The amounts include 10 % extra, so a batch never runs short. The line under the table says the mix: at consistency 70, for example, that is 70 parts of water to 100 parts of plaster by weight, so 700 g of water for every 1 kg of plaster. Weigh the water too: 1 g is 1 ml.
If you change the plaster mix after making the mold, the sheet says that its amounts were worked out at the old mix. Generate the mold again to get them at the new one.
The slip panel says how much casting slip to have ready, in litres and in kilograms. That is what the mold holds, in the cavity and in the spare above it, and 20 % more for topping up as the plaster draws the water in. Most of it pours back out: only the wall that builds on the plaster stays.
The kilograms come from the slip's specific gravity on its data sheet, or from 1.75 kg a litre, what potters usually bring a slip to, when it gives none. Weigh 500 ml of yours and divide the grams by 500 to know your own.
For a press or hump mold the sheet gives the clay for one pressing instead, and for a silicone mold the silicone and what one cast takes.
Below the numbers come the things to have ready (the plaster, the printed cases, mold soap, a scale, two buckets, a sieve) and the pour-day steps, each with the time it takes. Tick them off as you go: the ticks and your notes are saved on the piece. Untick the steps starts them again for the next pour.
The table at the end lists what you may see, the likely cause and what to do, for this kind of mold. There is more in When a cast goes wrong.
Add photos of the pour and the cast, and notes: the cast time, the slip, the weather, what you would change. Print this sheet gives a clean one-page version with your ticks and notes, to keep at the bench.
